About

An independent practice, run by the person who does the work.

Atya Aviation is an independent aviation consultancy based in Delft. It exists because small and mid-sized aviation organisations carry the same regulatory weight as large ones, without the departments to absorb it.

Story

Why this practice exists.

Regulation does not scale down. A training organisation with four instructors works to a framework built with far larger organisations in mind, and a business aviation operator with two aircraft carries a documentation burden that assumes a compliance department exists. In practice it usually means one postholder absorbing it in the evenings.

Atya Aviation was set up to take that weight — as project-based support rather than a permanent hire, and from someone who has operated inside these frameworks rather than only read them. Engagements are typically one to three days a week, on site in the Netherlands and remote across Europe.

The same person who writes your procedures also instructs and flies. That is not incidental: documentation written by someone who has to live with the consequences reads differently from documentation written to satisfy a checklist. It is the closest thing this practice has to a method.

Alongside the consultancy, Atya builds PlaneSell, a European aircraft marketplace. Shipping and operating a production platform is the clearest evidence available that the engineering side of this practice is real.

Mission

Make regulated aviation workable at small scale.

Not to produce compliant paperwork, but to leave operations that run more safely and organisations that can defend how they run.

Say the inconvenient thing early
A finding you discover in week one is a scoping conversation. The same finding at handover is a problem. Bad news travels first here.
Compliance is the floor
Meeting the requirement is the minimum. The question worth asking is whether the operation is genuinely safer, and whether anyone will still be following this in a year.
Write for the person at 06:00
Documentation is read by tired people under time pressure. If it needs a careful reading to be understood, it has failed regardless of how compliant it is.
Leave nothing depending on us
The measure of a good engagement is that the client does not need to call again. Handover means the organisation owns the work outright.

Boundaries

What we decline.

A consultancy that accepts everything is telling you something. These are the requests that get turned down, and why.

Nominated postholder roles

Safety Manager, Compliance Monitoring Manager and equivalent roles require accountability inside your organisation. We support the person holding them; we do not become them.

Guaranteed approval outcomes

Approval is the authority’s decision. We can make a submission complete, traceable and well-argued. Anyone promising the result is selling something else.

Type-specific technical authorship

Deep type knowledge belongs with the people who operate and maintain that aircraft. We make their knowledge consistent and evidenced rather than replacing it.

Work that papers over a real problem

If the honest answer is that the documentation is fine and the operation is not, that is the answer you get — even when it costs the engagement.

Tell us what needs to happen.

Describe the operation, the standard you are working to, and the deadline. We reply within one working day.
